keeper (2026)
alisa nora x andrew podkova
The project "keeper" explores the phenomenon of the household spirit, not as a folkloric figure, but as an experience of presence that persists even within urban living spaces. It is an attempt to capture a state of coexistence with the invisible keeper of a place - one who does not appear, yet is felt.
"The project emerged from the experience of living in an apartment where we independently sensed strange and difficult-to-explain occurrences. One evening, my partner was walking home up the stairs carrying flowers and filming his journey. When he opened the apartment door, he discovered that the water in the bathroom had been turned on for no apparent reason."(c) Alisa Nora
The exhibition aims to present, through multimedia artistic expression, conscious and subconscious images of the invisible "keeper" of a dwelling. It draws attention to mystical folk imagery by creating a unified environment filled with a sense of something both familiar and domestic, yet at the same time unknown and, at moments, unsettling.
"keeper" is a project about presence and the phenomena that quietly permeate everyday life.
